Beggar beads are multi-colored agate necklaces. They are called “beggar beads” because it was believed that agate was an attractor of wealth. The necklaces were worn by the beggars to attract alms. The beggar beads at Franklin Gemstone & Jewelry Warehouse are all hand-crafted. There are no two necklaces with the exact color pattern, although the necklaces are carefully designed to match all of the agates on one side of the necklace with the agates on the other side of the necklace. Thus the agates on either side of the clasp will be the same color and that pattern continues throughout the necklace. The agates also graduate from smaller to larger from the clasp to the front of the necklace. The center agate in the front of the necklace stands alone and will be a different color from the agates on either side of it. The agate colors (shades of orange, green, brown, and yellow) make the beggar beads an excellent accessory for the fall season.
